But...how? Zacharius puzzled over this paradox, and turned back to the footprints. They definitely led here, and yet once they reached solid ground the footsteps disappeared.
Zacharius turned to the sergeant. "How long have you been here? Have any Marines passed through?"

Brother-Adept Theodoros Ikarion - At Crash site B
Theodoros stood back as a Wolf Scout and and Crimson Fist shot out of the opened door in various directions with no acknowledgement. He turned into the ship as another person in Scout Armour - a Blood Drinker from the colours and insigna - made his way out. He saluted the Scout, and activated his vox-synthesizer.
"Salute, Blood Drinker. Is there an Apothecary alive within your ship? Any other Adeptes Astartes? I intend to salvage as many forces as possible for battling whatever heretics shot us down."

"Salute, Blood Drinker. Is there an Apothecary alive within your ship? Any other Adeptes Astartes? I intend to salvage as many forces as possible for battling whatever heretics shot us down." Lucian SanguineusParade Grounds near Crash site BIt didn't take Lucian long at all to assess his surroundings, and he soon found a few places that would suit his purposes. None of them were that single, perfect spot he wanted, though. As he tried to decide where to go, another possibility shot into his mind. He remembered looking at the maps of the area around the parade grounds before leaving San Guisaga to come here. One of the buildings further up north had a small balcony with a cupola on the north side, he recalled. It would be absolutely perfect for what he wanted to do, and as a bonus, it would take him behind enemy lines as well. All he had to do, was get there unseen, and he would be able to wreak havoc among the enemy. He walked past the unknown Techmarine standing near the door, returning his salute. Upon hearing his question, Lucian shrugged, muttering "Who knows?" just loud enough for the other Marine to hear. Without waiting for a response, he broke into a run, making a beeline for the closest point of entry of the building the gunship had crashed into. Once inside, he took cover behind a wall, and started to make his way through the building as fast and silent as he possibly could. He knew he would have to clear this building, cross the alley, and disappear into the next building unseen and unheard, if he was to make it to his objective. Zacharius turned to the sergeant. "How long have you been here? Have any Marines passed through?" "We set up just a couple minutes ago, just in time to stop that attack," he initially replies. At the second question, he nods. "Yes m'lord, three Marines of grey... I'm afraid I can't rightly recall which Chapter they hailed from, but they broke through the window to pass through the building rather than challenge the heretics' lines on the other side of this alley." The Sergeant points at a broken window, where the ground is heavily muddy and the turf destroyed by whatever entered the building.

Otto Gottfried: Crash Site AThe smell of war woke up Brother-Apostle Otto Gottfried. Opening his eyes, he saw the smoking debris of the Herald of Purity, fire blazing from all corners. He was surrounded by the bodies of his own brothers. Otto Gottfried's brows tensed, his jaws clenched. On his knees, he turned to his attention to the defensive line where he saw waves of renegades. Those damned heretics, the lot of them! How dare they betray our Holy Emperor? Otto Gottfried reached for his Crozius Arcanum, but found nothing. The Chaplain clenched his fist and punched the earth then threw his fist up. "The Emperor will have His vengeance today, heretics, I swear by it!" Without his Crozius Arcanum, Otto Gottfried reached over to a stray chainsword. He got on his two feet and accessed his Vox. "Brothers! The Renegades may have shot down our Herald of Purity! But remember that the God Emperor has give us feet so that we can stand without His machines! If you do not stand up then we give these Renegade scum hope for victory! Brother-Adept Theodoros Ikarion - Crash site B
He nodded at the Blood Drinker, and went into the wreckage of the ship. From closer inspection it was clear the Solidity wouldn't fly again, and his mood dropped another few degrees into icy. Surveying the chaos in the ship, he started inspecting whomever he could find that had an Aquila armour with enough response left to give up life signs. Tech Use, Challenging roll against Int (54): 100 Theodoros moved to plug in one of his connectors into the nearest suit of armour he could find - but noticed just in time that it was encrusted with dirt and metal flakes from the crash - wich could potentially have shorted out a system keeping one of his brothers alive - and cleared it off to try again. Solo Mode Re-roll of Tech Use against Int (54): 17 This time he quickly checked over whomever he could find for any signs of life.

Crash Site B:Theodoros avoided narrow disaster, but it wasn't going to do much good. Most of the Astartes he began to check showed no lifesigns, although a handful had reverted into stasis through the sus-an membrane - with proper medical treatment, they might be revivable, but if the fires spread into the bay their lives could all be forfeit. Then, in the corner, there was signs of one stirring, still alive and semi-conscious. The blue armour of a Librarian could be seen on the floor of the Thunderhawk.

"I see." Friend or foe, he had no desire to meet these marines, which left him unable to escape through the building, and he could not pass through this alley without causing unnecessary suspicion. There was nothing else for it, then: he would have to ensure Imperial victory here and find an oppurtunity to slip away and complete his mission later.
"Remain vigilant. I will assist at the front lines", he said, and turned back across the parade grounds towards the main entrance.

Defensive Line-Moments After Crash
Callisto Tenko ducked down behind the hastily built fortifications, reloading her Godwyn-De’az Stormbolter. It gave her a chance to survey the battle line. Her sisters were circled around the wounded Inquisitor, Jade Storrel, on her orders, protecting against any more heretics within the Promethean Guard's 17th regiment. None could be trusted. Down the battle-line, calls of low ammo could be heard over the din of gunfire and wailing of the injured. If the heretics kept pushing, the line would fall in no more than 2 hours. Tenko looked to the crashed thunderhawks and prayed to the Emperor that some of Adeptus Astartes had survived, even lowly recruits would help reinforce their lines. The Daughter of the Emperor slid the magazine home and went back to purging of traitors.

"This is Theodoros Ikarion, techmarine of the Scions of Mars, currently positioned in the Solidity of Faith, southernmost of the two crashed vessels. I have found several marines in need of direct medical assistance from an Apothecary. One of my brothers is one, he was riding in the Herald of Purity with me. I shall bring these men outside and join the battlefront when I am done." He shut off his comm system again and started moving the still-living marines out of the vessel, those closest to any fires first. Awareness against Per (54): 96 He briefly looked out the door to see if there was a good place to put them while awaiting aid from an Apothecary - but he didn't spot any particular place, so he would just line them up at a little distance from the gunship. The dirt was a good a place as any.

The defensive position at the front of the grounds was clearly in bad condition, but what worried Zacharius was the presence of a Sororitas team, Inquisitorial insignia attached to their armour. It seemed obvious to assume that where the Enemy went, the inquisition would follow, but it did little to calm his growing sense of urgency. Just then, his vox channel came alive, broadcasting a rallying speech to all brothers in range. The other marines were beginning to move.
I must make my way out of this place, and soon. Zacharius braced himself, pointed his heavy bolter towards the enemy, and began firing into the horde.

Crash Site B:
Xavier slowly rose to one knee, shaking his head to clear his blurry vision, resting his hand on the top of his helmet which had been off during the attack and was now resting on the floor next to him. Blood from a superficial yet messy wound to his cheek dripped red onto the collar of his blue armor, although the wound was already closing. He rose to his feet, helmet in his hand and looked about, the fires not seeming to perturb him much. Spotting Theodoros he called out, still not moving from where he stood. "Brother, what is the situation outside?"

Theodoros started dragging the next injured marine out the door when the Librarian woke up. He continued hauling the badly wounded Adeptus out of the door. "Solidity of Faith is dead, so is the Herald of Purity. We have crashed into the parade grounds under siege by heretics. The planetary force is doing battle to the north. You can help me move the wounded or aid the defense." He dragged the wounded marine outside, and left the Librarian's field of vision. He'd been talking more than he was used to already, and inwardly grumbled about having chosen to leave the workshop for these disastrous games. At least he had enough steel and electricity in him to speak with a synthesized voice, his own would have been a worse annoyance.
