Above the sky, above even the highest cloud, where no bird dare spread its wings, the last of the Aesir had been imprisoned by the Pantokrator. A small floating island with but a single tree, where the seasons never changed and the winds never stirred. All there was for the Asynja to do was to gaze down at the world. She could see forests grow and shrink, mountains rise up and the edge of the world crumble away. City lights flicker in the night and then pewter out.
One day, as the goddess looked down upon the world, a wisp of air breathed onto her. Such was her shock that nearly fell off the floating island. Another breath of air swayed her golden hair, before a steady breeze flowed across the island. The prison was broken, which meant the previous Pantokrator's power must be at an end. She was free to descend from the heavens and find just what had become of her Vanir.
But her home of Vanheim always stayed alight and she could hear her Vanir's inner most thoughts as they sacrificed humans in her honor. They wished for strength and courage against the giants, of which she granted without second thought, for the giants were the descendents of Rimtursar, whom she had fought against since time immemorial. She grew excited as her people celebrated victories in her name and soured at their defeats. There was no words for the day that the Vanir declared final victory over the giants, the goddess celebrated for years, perhaps decades. It was easy to lose track of time on her island of solitude, where nothing stirred. But the Aesir's joy turned to worry, as fewer and fewer sacrifices were made in her name.
